We’ve always said that Already Gone is more than a band of musicians – it’s a band of brothers. In the fifteen years that we’ve been together, that has never been more evident than it has in the past couple of weeks as band members, past and present, have gathered around Danny to support him and his family.
We’ll let him give you the detail himself, but know that the entire band is committed to fighting this together with Danny for a complete and unequivocal healing, and that the goal is to keep him on his (drum) throne for as long as possible and barring that, getting him back on it as quickly as possible. Marty Comeaux will be filling in on vocals while Danny undergoes treatment as he’ll be unable to sing; we’ve also arranged for alternate drummers if it becomes necessary.
We know this is going to be tough, but we have faith, family, and music, and we’ll get through it like we always do – together. Please join us in lifting Danny and his family in prayer.
From Danny and his wife:
We have held off on posting this publicly, but we can’t put this off anymore.
I have been diagnosed with neck and throat cancer. I have HPV Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It started with a lump on my throat after we had Covid in January. A sonogram was done in March, then after 4 weeks of not getting better, a biopsy on my neck, the lymph nodes, were tested on April 13th. On April 15th, our doctor had a video conference with me, and broke the news. We’ve been to see 3 different specialists in the last week, plus our primary care doctor.
They will do a biopsy of my throat, tonsils, and tongue either Monday or Tuesday of next week. I will start radiation and chemo treatments within the next two weeks. They might possibly install a feeding tube in me, temporarily.
As I most likely will not be able to talk, much less sing, Marty Comeaux has been rehearsing with us, (Already Gone) to cover my vocal parts while I am recovering. Marty will be on stage with us playing rhythm guitar (acoustic???), for the next few months, as needed. We are assuming that I will still be able to play the drums, just not sing. In the event that I cannot play drums, either, we will have some guest drummers helping us out, but hopefully it won’t come to that.
I/we are NOT looking for sympathy. We would, though, greatly appreciate your prayers for Diane, Kaitlyn, and I, as well as our Already Gone family, and our family and friends.
I WILL WIN!!!!!!!!
We will fight this with every ounce of our being. We have an amazing support team, and we know that you guys are a part of that, as well.
We have faith that God will not only heal me, but use me as a support system to others, after I/we go through all of this. The good news is that they are confident that they caught this early. I fully plan on a 100% recovery.
I recently started working for a new company. Ironically, I’m more worried about losing my new job than I am the cancer. Crazy, huh???
Thank you for your prayers. We definitely need them. This is just a new chapter, with a plot change, but the book is far from over.
