Videos From The Open Road

We only released one official video for this album, the title track, “The Open Road.” We released two “unofficial” videos, the first concert footage shot by fans at Houston House of Blues for Midnight Run to Llano, and the second, a hysterical animation that friend-of-the-band and sometimes drum-tech Kevin made in his “spare time.” (We didn’t know what that was either.) Hope you enjoy them!

The Open Road

Sometimes you can sense when change is coming
I got that sense one Thursday afternoon
When I got home, I found myself invited to leave

I didn’t think that change would come so soon

I packed my bags with things that didn’t matter
Relics of a time, now come and gone
I told myself that this was Independence Day
And set out on the road that I’m still on

Tell me why – you don’t smile the way you used to
Tell me why – you’re still carrying that load
Say goodbye – to everything you’ve known
And meet me out there on the open road

Driving down, highway after highway
Stopping here and there to pass the time
Searching for a little bit of clarity
Tryin’ to keep my life between the lines

But solitude can sometimes drive you crazy
Other times the silence keeps you sane
You can get addicted to the loneliness
But I can count the miles to ease the pain

Tell me why – you don’t smile the way you used to
Tell me why – you’re still carrying that load
Say goodbye – to everything you’ve known
And meet me out there on the open road

Let’s all take a stand for something, somewhere
Let’s all make a scene, go out in style
We don’t have to reach our destination yet
So let’s enjoy the journey for a while

Tell me why – you don’t smile the way you used to
Tell me why – you’re still carrying that load
Say goodbye – to everything you’ve known
And meet me out there on the open road

Heartache

You’re gonna feel all the pain when you’re tested
Gonna fall, gonna fall when you’re bested
It’s easy to see when you’re blind to all the heartache

The price that we pay at the end of the day
Murders the soul
We open our hearts and the misery starts
The farther we go
Beginnings will end, new endings begin
Nervous despair
That doesn’t change all your casual lies
Heart doesn’t care

You’re gonna feel all the pain when you’re tested
Gonna fall, gonna fall when you’re bested
It’s easy to see when you’re blind to all the heartache

You’re gonna see, gonna see
How easily I can get free
There’s not enough time in the game
For all the heartache

Life only knows the deceit you have wrought
Emotional fear
My eyes have been shut to the pain that you brought
Rejection is clear

Endings begin, new beginnings will end
The damage is done
The crater you left in my heart’s on the mend
Must carry on

You’re gonna feel all the pain when you’re tested
Gonna fall, gonna fall when you’re bested
It’s easy to see when you’re blind to all the heartache

You’re gonna see, gonna see
How easily I can get free
There’s not enough time in the game
For all the heartache

Through the channels of time
Shadows appear
We lay it all on the line
Our hopes and our fears

You’re gonna feel all the pain when you’re tested
Gonna fall, gonna fall when you’re bested
It’s easy to see when you’re blind to all the heartache

You’re gonna see, gonna see
How easily I can get free
There’s not enough time in the game
For all the heartache,
For all the heartache
For all the heartache

Midnight Run To Llano

There’s a place I know
Where the wild things grow
And life there is so simple and complete

And the town moves slow
How could it know
That once I left, the world was at my feet

And I’m looking for that place I knew before
Cause this just ain’t my kind of town no more

So I hit that road
And made my way through the world
Had it better than my daddy did before

But for everything I built, and all I saved
The city lights and noise ain’t what I crave

And I’m on my way to Llano
With a picture in my hand
The red moon leads me to the promised land

I’ll play where you want me to
Meet me if you can
For a midnight run to Llano

It rained us out in Austin
Spent nights in San Antone
Walking down that river, all alone

Did our last show in New Braunfels
Now I’m tired and going home

Take me back to Llano
Hell I’m going to Llano
On a midnight run to Llano
Won’t you come along
You’ll be right at home

So saddle up your mustangs now
Forget about your sins
It’s to a time and place where we left off
We’ll ride like the wind

Blowing back to Llano…

Report a problem

Shades Of Blue

Another night, the midnight hour
The clock ticks on and on
Watching as the world outside goes by

Another drink, in quiet memory
Of love left incomplete

The promise of another day
Wouldn’t change things anyway

Images of you and me
They slowly fade from view
Reminders of a world we left behind

I didn’t have the words to say
Wouldn’t change things anyway

How did we fall so far from heaven?
All of my life I’ve waited to find a love that’s true
How do you sleep at night, thinking everything is black and white,
When to me, it’s all just shades of blue

When to me, it’s all just shades of blue

The Road Less Traveled

I’m the man that loves you
I’m the one that cares
I always want to see me in your eyes

Summer’s almost gone now
Got the call today
We’re headed back out on the road a while

So goodbye my love
I know you’ve heard it all before
It won’t be long
Until you hear me knocking at your door

How long have we walked the road less traveled
How far have we already gone
So long doesn’t mean forever after
When the lights come up this song is through
I’m coming home to you

We all go through changes
Nothing stays the same
Somehow you were always by my side
Even through the bad times
We always found a way
To laugh about our troubles as we cried

So goodbye my love
I know you’ve heard it all before
It won’t be long
Until you see me standing at your door

How long have we walked the road less traveled
How far have we already gone
So long doesn’t mean forever after
When the lights come up this song is through
I’m coming home to you

All hearts, no valentines

I’m the man that loves you
I’m the one that cares
Last night I dreamed I saw your face
I woke up in this lonely place

How long have we walked the road less traveled
How far have we already gone
So long doesn’t mean forever after
When the lights come up this song is through
I’m coming home to you
How long?

How long, so long
Coming home to you

Postscript

Looking out of my window
Thinking back on my life
We were young, running down by the river

Summer days turned to nights
Me and some old friends
We played our guitars
Sang in the light of the moon

It’s a long way home
Where the four winds blow
And the river’s bend
I know that’s where we’ll meet in the end

Moving fast, growing older
Living life on the road
I remember the first time I saw you
Coming in from the cold

I walked up beside you and held out my hand
We danced in the light of the moon

It’s a long way home
Where the four winds blow
And the river’s bend
Darling, that’s where we’ll meet in the end

Won’t you sit here beside me
Won’t you stay for a while
Can’t remember the last time I saw you
But you still make me smile

Don’t think about it
You’ve traveled too far
Cry in the light of the moon

It’s a long way home
Where the four winds blow
And the river’s bend
Darling, that’s where we’ll meet in the end
